With the advent of the Internet and data analysis methods such as artificial intelligence, digital data has become essential. Meanwhile, the volume, variety, and speed of transmission of data have increased dramatically, making data governance more complex and challenging. The Digital Trade and Data Governance Hub at George Washington University, a subawardee of Fletcher, has produced the first metric to assess what countries are doing to govern data at the national and international levels. This panel introduces the metric and describes how researchers can use it.
