In light of the pandemic, cities have launched new digital services and forms of engagement that make it easier for residents to access government services, but may be inaccessible to residents impacted by the digital divide. The Urban Institute has created two new tools to help city officials and advocates working to build inclusive smart cities.

The Urban Institute is the trusted source for unbiased, authoritative insights that inform consequential choices about&nbsp;the well-being of people and places&nbsp;in the United States. They are a nonprofit research organization that believes decisions shaped by facts, rather than ideology, have the power to improve public policy and practice, strengthen communities, and transform people’s lives for the better.Urban experts diagnose current challenges and look ahead to identify opportunities for change. And they don’t stop there. They use their research findings to help stakeholders craft&nbsp;relevant solutions and strategies&nbsp;that address today’s concerns and avert tomorrow’s roadblocks. And they&nbsp;share their insights in real time&nbsp;with influencers eager to make smarter decisions.<a href="https://www.workrisenetwork.org/about-workrise" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="font-size: 16px;">WORKRISE</a>WorkRise, hosted by the Urban Institute, is a national platform for identifying, testing, and sharing bold ideas for transforming the labor market. We do this by funding research on promising practices, policies, and programs underway across the country as well as foundational research on labor market trends. We generate data and evidence that strengthens employers, informs policymaking, and provides genuine economic mobility and security for workers—especially Black and other people of color, including women and youth, who face systemic barriers to opportunity.WorkRise convenes and collaborates with often-siloed groups­—employers, worker advocates, practitioners, policymakers, scholars, and philanthropists—to ensure the solutions we deliver are relevant and scalable.
