Taking Stock: The State of Sub-Saharan Africa

Sub-Sahara Africa is a region that has generated a lot of excitement in recent years, with great expectations of bigger and better things to come. This report systematically reviews this vast region’s situation from the perspectives of geography, resource endowment, demographics, urbanization and economic structure, investment and trade to provide a factual baseline for assessing the region’s growth potential.

On that basis, the region’s policy challenges are identified and rigorously examined – especially in terms of infrastructure, health and education. These are the crucial areas of policy focus. Without significant improvement in these areas in the coming years, Sub-Sahara Africa’s tremendous potential will not be realized.
