Improving Women’s Business Literacy in Indonesia

December 3, 2014

Mercy Corps’ Agri-Fin Mobile program (Agri-Fin) “bundles” mobile phone-based services for smallholder farmers in Indonesia, Zimbabwe and Uganda, resulting in increased productivity and incomes. Services offered include agricultural advisory services such as weather data, market pricing and information on good agricultural practices delivered via SMS, along with financial services such as value chain payments.

With MasterCard’s support, Mercy Corps will add an important business and financial literacy component to Agri-Fin targeting female farmers in Indonesia. Training will be delivered both through in-person sessions and through Android applications, enabling female farmers to:

  • Increase their business and financial literacy
  • Improve the productivity of their farms and success of their agribusinesses
  • Overcome the unique constraints facing women to manage their businesses and finances
